Messina families isolated due to Torrente Papardo flooding

Approximately 40 families in the Sperone area of Messina remain isolated following heavy rainfall six days ago. The isolation is caused by critical conditions affecting the Torrente Papardo and the adjacent road network near via Coviello and the Altair Equi Club.

City Councilor Anna Sorbello has submitted a formal inquiry to Mayor Federico Basile, demanding urgent intervention to secure the torrent and restore road access. The current situation prevents the passage of emergency vehicles and restricts both pedestrian and vehicular movement. Sorbello noted that heavy rainfall exacerbates the issue by increasing water flow from the torrent, further damaging the local infrastructure. The inquiry seeks clarity on available municipal or regional funding, the timeline for repairs, and the implementation of emergency alternative routes to ensure resident safety.
