Messina flooding on Viale della Libertà sparks calls for action

Heavy rainfall in Messina has caused significant flooding on Viale della Libertà, leaving residents unable to leave their homes. Local councilor Libero Gioveni, representing Fratelli d’Italia, has denounced the situation as a shameful and recurring issue that continues to exasperate the community.

Gioveni noted that despite recent utility works in the nearby Via Pola and Via Cuppari areas, the current measures have proven insufficient. He criticized the lack of progress from the Municipality and ATM regarding the tramway works, which he suggests have not resolved the underlying drainage problems.

To address the issue, Gioveni intends to request an urgent hearing in the City Council with all relevant authorities to seek more substantial structural solutions before more intense rainfall occurs.
