Messina hosts Stretto Pride to advocate for rights and inclusion
The Stretto Pride event took place in Messina, transforming the city streets into a space for celebration, visibility, and the advocacy of rights. Under the slogan ‘Sulla rotta dei diritti’ (On the route of rights), the procession brought together a diverse group of participants, including students, the Gay Parents Association, and political figures such as municipal assessors Liana Cannata and Alessandra Calafiore.
Beyond celebrating LGBTQIA+ identity and the freedom to love without discrimination, the event integrated broader social and political causes. The humanitarian organization Emergency participated with a signature collection drive focused on peace and disarmament, while the CGIL trade union highlighted labor rights and worker protections.
Event godmother Priscilla emphasized that the Pride movement serves as an act of presence, reclamation, and memory, stating that it must ‘disturb’ a normalcy that dictates who is considered acceptable in society.
