Messina officials launch pact for new airport infrastructure

Regional deputy Calogero Leanza and Messina Metropolitan City councilor Salvatore Sidoti have launched the ‘Patto dei 108’ (Pact of 108) to advocate for the construction of an airport in Messina. The initiative seeks a formal commitment from the Region, the Government, and ENAC to establish a concrete timeline and path for the project.

Proponents argue that Messina is the only Sicilian metropolitan city without its own airport, despite its significant tourism assets in areas such as Taormina, the Aeolian Islands, and the Nebrodi mountains. The pact aims to gather symbolic signatures from the 108 municipalities within the province to demonstrate the strategic necessity of the infrastructure for residents, businesses, and the tourism sector.
