Messina organizations demand transparency over delayed caregiver fund payments

The SPI CGIL Messina union and the association Nati per la Vita e. t. s. have submitted a request for generalized civic access to the Messina City Council to demand transparency regarding the caregiver fund.

According to the organizations, payments for the 2021 fiscal year remain unclear despite the Region having allocated over 100,000 euros to the D26 socio-sanitary district in June 2023. While the municipality confirmed the transfer of funds, there is currently no accessible documentation detailing how many beneficiaries were paid, the amounts disbursed, or if any balances remain.

Furthermore, the groups highlighted delays regarding the 2022 fiscal year. Although the Region has already distributed new resources, the official notice allowing caregivers to apply for the 2022 funds has not yet been published in the D26 district. Representatives stated that they are seeking public explanations for these administrative or accounting delays to ensure support reaches those assisting family members with severe disabilities.
