Messina Strait bridge project under political scrutiny after court findings
Senator Antonio Nicita, vice‑president of the PD group in the Italian Senate, urged a comprehensive review of the authorisation process for the Messina Strait bridge. He highlighted media reports of pressure, influence and information sharing that, while not culminating in a court ruling, raise concerns about a rushed and incomplete procedure. Nicita cited observations from the Transport Authority, the president of ANAC and life‑senator Cattaneo, calling for a halt to the politically driven timeline and an extension of the project’s start date to 2030.
The senator noted that executives of the Stretto Messina company, previously reported as recipients of information from investigated parties, expressed surprise at the Court of Auditors’ findings and at subsequent media coverage. Nicita urged respect for institutional inquiries and additional reflection before proceeding.
