Messina Strait Bridge receives conditional approval pending technical checks

The Consiglio superiore dei Lavori pubblici has issued a conditional approval for the Messina Strait Bridge project. The approval, detailed in a 353-page document, requires extensive technical verifications before construction can begin.

The project is divided into two phases. The first phase involves experimental studies, wind tunnel tests for aerodynamic safety of the deck and cables, and in-depth geological and seismotectonic research. Additional assessments are required regarding geophysical and paleoseismological data, as well as the durability of materials in a marine environment.

Following these technical steps, the dossier must pass through the Cipess and the Court of Auditors. Simone Veronese, president of the Associazione Amici del Ponte dello Stretto, has called on Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini to publish a definitive timeline, urging that construction start by the end of 2026 to avoid further political delays.
