Messolonghi cultural event held in Rome to mark 200th anniversary

A commemorative concert was held in Rome to mark the 200th anniversary of the heroic Exodus of Messolonghi and to honor Italian Philhellenism. The event took place at the courtyard of the Holy Church of St. Theodore in the Roman Forum, drawing a large audience of Italians and Greeks living abroad.

The Iosif Rogon Musical Club of Messolonghi served as the cultural ambassador for the city, performing melodies deeply connected to its history, including works such as ‘Eleftheroi Poliorgimenoi’. The program featured original texts by Eleni Plakida, translated into Italian by Thodoris Andreadis-Syggelakis in collaboration with lyricist Lina Nikolakopoulou.

The event was organized by the Greek Community of Rome and Lazio and the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Theodore, in cooperation with the Greek Embassies to Rome and the Vatican. It was held under the auspices of the Metropolis of Italy, the Municipality of Messolonghi, and the Region of Western Greece.
