Mesud Barzani warns Baghdad over agreement compliance and security

Mesud Barzani has issued a stern warning to the Iraqi government, stating that there would be no meaning in remaining in the Iraqi government if agreements made with the Shiite Coordination Framework are not implemented. He expressed concerns regarding conspiracies being directed against the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Baghdad.

Barzani highlighted security vulnerabilities, recalling past discussions where Iraqi defense and interior ministers reportedly admitted a lack of capacity to protect even a single police station. He warned that a repeat of the 2014 scenario could occur if coalition forces withdraw from Iraq, potentially allowing ISIS to resurface. He noted that following the 2014 ISIS incursion, the Iraqi government had to desperately seek assistance from the United States, Europe, and NATO.

Additionally, Barzani commented on the limitations of Iraqi leadership, suggesting that past prime ministers lacked full authority and faced constant obstacles that hindered their ability to act independently.
