Mesut Barzani addresses KRG security and Iraqi coordination

Mesut Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), has addressed the security implications regarding the potential conclusion of missions by the US-led international coalition in Iraq. Barzani stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) maintains close coordination with the Iraqi federal government to prevent threats from ISIS or other emerging risks.

Barzani emphasized that the Peshmerga forces possess the capacity and readiness to defend the people and territory of the KRG against any attempts to threaten its security. While acknowledging the coalition's role in supporting Iraqi security forces and the Peshmerga in the fight against ISIS, he noted that the end of their mission does not signify the end of friendship. He suggested that the Iraqi government and the KRG should pursue bilateral agreements with coalition countries to maintain regional stability.
