Meta acquires AI data analytics platform Sundial

Meta Platforms has acquired Sundial, an AI-powered data analytics startup, to strengthen its internal data and analytics capabilities. The startup was co-founded in 2021 by former Meta executives Julie Zhuo, a former VP of Product Design, and Chandra Narayanan, a former data analytics lead for Instagram.

Sundial provides self-service analytics tools that allow enterprises to use natural language and chatbot interfaces to query complex datasets. This technology enables business teams to obtain actionable insights and monitor AI systems without relying on centralized data departments. The company previously raised $23 million in total funding from investors including Sequoia Capital and GPV.

Rather than launching Sundial as a public product, Meta will absorb the startup into its new Data Analytics Tooling & Agents (DATA) organization. Led by Alex Schultz, this unit focuses on descriptive analytics, experimental testing, and AI product improvement. Following the acquisition, Narayanan is expected to lead work related to data analytics tools and AI agents.
