Meta adds voice and video calling to WhatsApp Web

Meta Platforms has rolled out an update that enables users to make and receive one‑to‑one and group voice and video calls directly from WhatsApp Web, eliminating the need to install the desktop application. The new features include seamless call transfer between phone and computer, high‑definition QuickHD video, background‑noise suppression, a waiting‑room for group calls, screen sharing, real‑time reactions and a dedicated Calls tab with full call history. All calls remain end‑to‑end encrypted and are offered at no extra cost. The functionality is being gradually released and is expected to reach all users worldwide within a few weeks.

The update targets users who rely on shared or corporate computers where installing software is restricted, providing a more flexible, browser‑based communication experience across devices.
