Meta AI glasses criticized by Lorde as privacy risk amid soaring sales

Pop star Lorde used her set at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid to denounce Meta’s AI‑enabled smart glasses, calling them “not sexy” and warning that they blur the line between reality and surveillance. She highlighted privacy worries that have spurred lawsuits alleging the devices were used to record and train AI on graphic content, and noted that Meta claims to include safeguards such as a visible recording light.

Meanwhile, Meta announced a new line of its own‑branded smart glasses – Meta Adventurer, Meta Fury and a Kylie Jenner‑collaborated model – priced from $299. The eyeless designs incorporate high‑resolution cameras, open‑ear speakers, multiple microphones and deep integration with Meta AI, including live translation in 14 languages and a Muse Spark AI assistant. The devices offer up to eight hours of active use per charge, with a portable case extending runtime to 40 hours, and will soon add pedestrian navigation. Meta reported selling more than 7 million AI glasses in 2025, a three‑fold increase over the previous two years.
