Meta and Even Realities advance smart glasses technology
Meta is expanding the utility of its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses through AI integration and accessibility initiatives. In collaboration with the Blinded Veterans Association and the American Council of the Blind, Meta announced a plan to provide these AI-powered glasses to eligible blind veterans in the United States. The devices, which feature cameras, microphones, and Meta AI, can assist users by reading printed materials, identifying objects, and providing real-time environmental descriptions.
While the technology offers hands-free assistance, it has raised privacy concerns regarding potential covert recording. Meta has addressed this by implementing LED indicator lights to signal when photography or video is in progress.
In the consumer market, Shenzhen-based startup Even Realities has released the Even G2 Brown 2, a smart glasses model focusing on high-end design. Unlike many competitors, these glasses feature a genuine-looking tortoiseshell pattern created through a 20-hour tumbling process using a proprietary material. The device includes features such as live translation, notifications, and a floating teleprompter.
