Meta and Luxottica drive growth in smart glasses market

The smart glasses market is experiencing significant growth and competition, driven largely by Meta and its partnership with Luxottica. Leaked memos suggest Meta and Luxottica aim to increase production to 20–30 million units annually, a volume comparable to the lifetime sales of the Quest 2 headset. This surge has prompted competitors like Samsung, Apple, Huawei, and Alibaba to enter or prepare for the market.

The latest iteration of Meta’s hardware, the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3), offers incremental improvements over previous models. While the device maintains the same 12-megapixel camera and AI feature set, it introduces a longer battery life of up to nine hours and minor hardware adjustments such as thinner arms and adjustable temple tips. Despite the hardware evolution, the product continues to face ongoing discussions regarding privacy and high pricing.
