Meta and YouTube reverse ad blocks for Elon Musk documentary

Meta and YouTube have reversed their decisions to block paid advertisements for the upcoming documentary ‘Musk’, directed by Oscar-winner Alex Gibney. The four-hour film, distributed by Bleecker Street, examines the business career, personal life, and political influence of Elon Musk.

Initially, the platforms rejected the film’s trailer, citing policies against ‘political content’ because the footage included a 2024 political rally and references to the U.S. presidential election. Following appeals from Bleecker Street, Meta acknowledged the rejection was an error, and YouTube stated the trailer had been temporarily restricted by its systems but was cleared after a review.

While Meta and YouTube have restored the ads, other major platforms including TikTok and X—which is owned by Musk—have reportedly maintained their refusal to run the advertisements. The documentary is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on October 9.
