Meta apologizes for suspending No Kings Coalition Instagram account

Meta has issued an apology following the temporary suspension of the Instagram account belonging to the “No Kings Coalition,” a US-based protest movement. The organization had been mobilizing thousands of people for demonstrations regarding migration policy and civic engagement ahead of the midterm elections.

Meta attributed the outage to an error by its automated security systems. According to company communications, the systems incorrectly flagged a sudden surge in activity as bot traffic. Specifically, the company noted that an AI tool from Anthropic, known as Claude, was querying profiles, posts, and hashtags at a speed that triggered the automated protections.

While Meta stated the incident was accidental and not a political decision, the No Kings Coalition has rejected the explanation as insufficient. Organizers reported that even after the profile became visible again, they remained unable to access the account for several hours.
