Meta caps free usage of Conversation Focus on its AI-powered glasses
Meta has introduced a quota on the Conversation Focus feature of its AI‑enabled smart glasses. The tool, launched in December to amplify voices in noisy surroundings, will now be free for only three hours each month. Users who need more access must subscribe to Meta One Premium for about $20 (≈ €17) per month, which raises the limit to fifteen hours and does not roll over unused time.
The restriction applies despite the feature running entirely on the device, without reliance on Meta’s cloud services, prompting criticism that the move is a purely commercial decision and raises ethical concerns about charging for an accessibility function. Analysts note the change could steer price‑sensitive buyers toward competing products, such as Apple’s upcoming glasses, which are expected to keep similar features free of extra fees.
