Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg admits AI transition mistakes

Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg told employees in an internal memo that the company "made a mistake" as it reshapes its organization around artificial intelligence. He said the rapid pace of AI development has created complex challenges and that further errors are likely. The memo noted that Meta had already cut about 10% of its global workforce and moved roughly 7,000 staff to AI‑related projects, affecting around 20% of its 78,000‑person workforce. Zuckerberg assured staff that no additional company‑wide layoffs are planned for the remainder of the year and that the firm will create new roles for employees shifted to AI work. Meta continues to invest billions of dollars in AI infrastructure to compete with rivals such as OpenAI, Google and Microsoft, and has launched a $115 million Skilled Trades Academy to provide training and guaranteed jobs in four U.S. states.
