Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg admits errors in AI‑focused workforce overhaul

Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg sent an internal memo acknowledging that the company made mistakes in its large‑scale reorganisation around artificial intelligence. He said the complexity of the changes led to errors and that “it’s almost certain we will make more”. The May restructuring cut roughly 10 % of Meta’s global staff and moved about 7,000 employees to AI‑related projects. Zuckerberg added that no additional global layoffs are planned for the rest of the year and that the firm will create new roles for workers involved in AI model training and those affected by the changes. The company also plans to increase budgets for team‑building activities, reduce the number of employees reporting to each manager, and host a major hackathon in July to spur collaboration and AI development. In April, Meta raised its capital‑expenditure outlook for 2026 to $125‑$145 billion, reflecting the scale of its AI investments.
