Meta confirms smart glasses recorded audio without activation

Meta has confirmed that a recent firmware update caused its Ray-Ban smart glasses to record audio conversations without being activated by the user. Users reported that the devices were capturing audio and creating transcripts even when the “Hey Meta” voice assistant prompt was not used and the “respond without Hey Meta” setting was disabled.

Reports from users on platforms like Reddit indicated that the white capture LED on the glasses would turn on during normal conversations, signaling active recording. One user noted the issue occurred across multiple devices, including both second- and third-generation models.

A Meta spokesperson stated, “This issue has been resolved,” adding that users can manage, review, and delete voice logs of their interactions with Meta AI through their settings at any time. The company did not provide specific details regarding the cause of the glitch.
