An artificial‑intelligence‑generated deep‑fake video depicting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi circulated widely on social media, prompting complaints from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and other security agencies. Delhi and Hyderabad police filed FIRs under the IT Act, accusing unknown cyber‑criminals of spreading the misleading content.

Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, issued a statement saying it is in full contact with Indian law‑enforcement agencies. The company’s global threat intelligence and legal teams are providing user data, IP addresses and log details to aid the investigation, and it noted that its automated systems had already limited the video's reach. Meta affirmed that it allows no space for AI‑generated content that harms or misleads political leaders.
