Meta CTO says AI productivity gains will not lead to more time off

Meta Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth stated during an internal town hall meeting that productivity gains achieved through artificial intelligence will not result in additional vacation time for employees.

Responding to an inquiry regarding whether AI-driven efficiencies could revive the company's former "Meta Days" program—which provided extra time off—Bosworth argued that the saved time should be redirected toward developing better products for the billions of people who use Meta's services daily. He suggested that utilizing productivity gains for more work rather than more leisure is a better professional strategy, though he later apologized for his blunt delivery, noting he had initially perceived the question as a joke.

Meta currently provides employees with four weeks of paid annual leave, excluding public holidays. The company has also implemented measures to manage internal AI costs, such as introducing token budgets for staff.
