Meta disables camera on Ray‑Ban smart glasses when LED indicator is covered

Meta announced that its second‑generation Ray‑Ban smart glasses will automatically shut off the onboard camera if the white LED indicator light is physically covered or tampered with. The company said, “We are continuously improving our ability to detect tampering, and now we’re updating the glasses to disable the camera if they detect the LED was physically tampered with or destroyed.” The move follows reports of an underground market offering services to disable the LED. Meta will also remove ads and ban accounts that promote such tampering services.

The Ray‑Ban Meta glasses, often marketed as Meta sunglasses, are priced between $299 and $459 depending on generation and lens options. First‑generation models start around $299, while Gen 2 models range from $379 for standard lenses to $459 for Transitions lenses. Prescription versions can exceed $500.
