Meta expands $1.5 billion Huntsville data center campus
Meta is nearing completion of an expansion at its data center campus in north Huntsville, Alabama. The total investment across both phases of the project exceeds $1.5 billion, bringing the facility's footprint to nearly 3.5 million square feet.
The campus, which broke ground in 2018 and opened around 2021, currently supports more than 300 full-time jobs. Meta has prioritized local hiring, utilizing engineering talent from the area, with many permanent roles accessible via associate degrees or certificates from local institutions.
Addressing environmental and utility concerns, Meta stated it matches every megawatt used by the facility with clean and renewable energy sources. As a direct-serve customer of the Tennessee Valley Authority, the company has signed a ratepayer protection pledge to ensure its operations do not increase utility bills for local residents.
