Rafał Brzoska disputes Meta over fraudulent advertisements

Rafał Brzoska, CEO of InPost, is engaged in a high-profile dispute with Meta over the continued use of his likeness in fraudulent advertisements on Facebook and Instagram. These scams include deepfakes and manipulated images, such as one depicting Brzoska in handcuffs, to promote criminal activities and fake investments.

Despite a previous ruling by the Warsaw Court of Appeal holding Meta responsible for the dissemination of such ads, Brzoska claims the fraudulent content persists. In response to the ongoing issue, Brzoska publicly named several Meta employees in Poland and Central Europe, accusing them of negligence. Meta responded by stating that public attacks on its staff threaten their safety and that the company is investing in tools to detect fake ads.

Following the escalation, Meta temporarily blocked Brzoska’s Instagram account. The conflict has drawn intervention from Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski, who announced intentions to demand urgent explanations from Meta regarding compliance with the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA). Gawkowski emphasized that large platforms must be held accountable for user safety and cannot operate above the law.
