Meta files patents for AI-powered smart glasses

Meta has filed new patents for advanced smart glasses featuring artificial intelligence and improved hardware design. One patent describes a system capable of facial recognition and emotional analysis. The technology aims to identify friends and family members by utilizing the wearer’s social graph, automatically centering them in photos or videos and adjusting camera angles based on real-time interactions, such as laughter.

Additionally, the system could allow users to use voice commands to search through a database of past encounters, retrieving details from previous photos, videos, and social media interactions. The glasses would also incorporate eye-tracking technology to assist with visual focus and automated image stabilization.

A second patent focuses on hardware optimization, proposing a new antenna design to improve wireless connectivity. To maintain a lightweight and comfortable frame, the design suggests moving antennas from the arms of the glasses to the bottom edge near the lenses. This configuration aims to reduce interference with other electronic components like cameras and processors while improving signal quality and energy efficiency. The patent notes that this antenna architecture could also be applied to other head-mounted wearables, such as virtual reality or night vision goggles.
