Meta halts employee keyboard‑tracking program after data exposure

Meta stopped an internal program that recorded employees' mouse movements, keystrokes and on‑screen content to train artificial‑intelligence agents. The initiative, called Model Capability Initiative, collected detailed data from roughly 45,000 Hive tables on staff laptops in the United States. Internal reviews found the data were left too broadly accessible, exposing sensitive information such as private conversations, prompts, code snippets and performance metrics. Meta said there is no evidence the data were misused, but the company paused the program to investigate and address the privacy‑security shortcomings. Employees had previously raised concerns about the surveillance, leading to limited concessions before the breach was discovered.
