Meta hires Amazon cloud veteran Dave Brown to accelerate AI data‑center build‑out
Meta Platforms plans to bring Dave Brown, a senior executive from Amazon Web Services with nearly two decades of cloud‑infrastructure experience, into its infrastructure team. Brown will report to Meta’s head of infrastructure and focus on constructing new data centers that will power the company’s artificial‑intelligence services.
The move follows comments by CEO Mark Zuckerberg at Meta’s recent shareholder meeting, where he said a cloud business is “definitely on the table.” It is part of the broader “Meta Compute” initiative that targets the creation of hundreds of gigawatt‑scale compute resources in the coming years. Meta expects to spend between $125 billion and $145 billion on capital‑expenditure this year, much of it earmarked for AI‑focused data‑center construction.
Hiring a senior AWS leader underscores the intense competition for talent as demand for AI compute power surges, and signals Meta’s ambition to expand its cloud and AI capabilities beyond its social‑media core.
