Meta India Head Arun Srinivas FIRed Over Morphed PM Modi Video; Government Summons Meta Executives

Hyderabad cyber‑crime police filed two FIRs against Arun Srinivas, head of Meta India, and several Instagram/Facebook account operators for distributing AI‑edited or “morphed” images and videos that depicted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in obscene or misleading ways. The complaints, filed by a businessman and a BJP worker, alleged that the content could spread misinformation, incite hatred and damage public order.

Separately, India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued a fresh summons to senior Meta executives, demanding a written explanation for the temporary blocking of a video posted by Prime Minister Modi on Facebook. The video, posted on 23 July about the NEET‑UG paper‑leak controversy, was viewed more than 404 million times before the platform removed it. Meta said the block was an inadvertent technical error and pledged new security protocols for accounts of public figures.

The two actions highlight heightened regulatory scrutiny of the tech giant’s content‑moderation practices in India’s large digital market.
