Meta introduces new data privacy settings for Instagram users

Meta has introduced a new setting on Instagram titled ‘Activity from other businesses’ to give users more control over how their data is used for personalized advertising, feed content, and AI responses. This setting replaces the previous ‘Off-Meta Activity’ option and expands the scope of how information sent by third-party websites and apps—such as purchase history or site visits—is utilized by the platform.

While there is no single switch to stop all data collection, users can manage privacy by navigating to the Accounts Center within the Instagram app. From there, they can adjust preferences regarding activity from other businesses. Additionally, users can limit tracking by reviewing app permissions for location, camera, and microphone, or by managing contact synchronization and iPhone tracking settings to restrict how Meta uses external data to tailor the user experience.
