Meta launches $299 AI smart glasses and adds new Instagram Story tools

Meta has unveiled a new line of AI‑enabled smart glasses priced at $299, aiming to broaden the wearable market. The devices, available initially in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and several European countries, feature built‑in microphones, speakers, a camera, an eight‑hour battery, and a dedicated button to activate Meta AI. Three designs are offered, including a special edition developed with Kylie Jenner. Features such as real‑time translation, music playback, automatic photo selection and an LED indicator for camera use are highlighted, along with enhanced privacy controls.

At the same time, Instagram rolled out three new Story formats—Spin View, Multi‑Cam Stories, and additional editing tools (Expand, Audio, Speed)—specifically for content recorded with Meta’s Ray‑Ban, Oakley and Meta glasses. Spin View lets viewers rotate their phones to explore a 360° scene captured by the glasses, while Multi‑Cam Stories synchronise first‑person footage from the glasses with front‑camera video from a smartphone. The new editing tools help creators trim, adjust audio and change playback speed, further integrating the glasses into social‑media creation workflows.
