Meta launches Muse Image, its first generative AI model for Instagram and WhatsApp
Meta Platforms announced the rollout of Muse Image, the company’s first image‑generation model from Meta Superintelligence Labs. The model is now available in the Meta AI chatbot and powers more than 30 new AI‑driven effects for Instagram Stories. It also enables image generation in direct chats on WhatsApp, with plans to extend to Facebook, Messenger and other Meta apps.
Muse Image can interpret complex text prompts, render legible text and functional QR codes within images, edit photos through sketching or annotation tools, and incorporate public Instagram content via @‑mentions. Users can request room redesigns that pull real‑world products from the web or Facebook Marketplace. Basic use is free, while advanced creation features will be offered through Meta’s subscription plans. The launch follows Meta’s earlier debut of Muse Spark, a multimodal AI model that claims ten‑fold compute‑efficiency gains, and comes amid analysts’ speculation that Meta may later commercialise excess AI compute capacity through a cloud‑leasing “neocloud” service.
The rollout is initially limited to select countries, with Meta stating that broader availability across its apps is forthcoming.
