Meta launches fashion‑forward AI smart glasses with Kylie Jenner

Meta announced the Starfire Kylie Edition, a new line of AI‑powered smart glasses created with Kylie Jenner. The accessories were unveiled at a New York influencer event and are marketed as a fashion‑forward alternative to earlier surveillance‑tainted models. Eva Chen, Meta’s vice‑president of fashion, said the glasses are now designed “to integrate and become part of your personal style,” and the partnership with EssilorLuxottica will offer 26 different designs. The launch follows sales of 7 million Meta AI glasses in 2025, but critics have dubbed the move “surveillance chic,” warning that the devices can record video and audio in public.

The broader market for smart glasses is heating up in 2026, with companies such as Snap, Google, Apple and Chinese firms Alibaba, Xiaomi, Huawei, Tencent and Baidu all developing comparable products. Analysts note that AI integration is turning glasses into personal assistants that can translate speech, identify objects and overlay augmented‑reality information, while concerns remain over battery life and privacy.
