Meta launches Meta AI desktop app for Mac
Meta has launched a dedicated desktop application for its Meta AI assistant on macOS. The app, currently in beta, is designed to work natively on Macs equipped with Apple Silicon and requires macOS 15 or later.
Key features include a system-wide dictation tool that allows users to input text into any open application and a screen-sharing capability. Through screen sharing, the AI can analyze the contents of a specific window to provide context-aware answers, suggestions, or content generation. While the assistant can observe and interpret the screen, it does not currently possess the ability to control the computer directly.
The application is specifically positioned as a productivity tool for creators and small businesses. By connecting to professional Facebook or Instagram accounts and Google Workspace, Meta AI can access data regarding ad performance, audience engagement, and documents to assist with tasks such as creating presentations, spreadsheets, and weekly performance reports.
While the app is free to download, Meta is testing usage limits on more compute-intensive features. Users seeking higher rate limits may eventually require a subscription through the Meta One plan.
