Meta launches multi‑account support for WhatsApp on iOS

Meta has rolled out a multi‑account feature for WhatsApp on iOS, letting users run two separate accounts – typically personal and professional – within the same app on an iPhone. The update, released in a phased global rollout that began in September 2023, requires a second phone number for verification and keeps each account’s chat history, contacts and notification settings independent. End‑to‑end encryption remains active for both accounts, although privacy experts warn that shared app infrastructure could create new security risks if one account is compromised.

The feature brings WhatsApp in line with competitors such as Telegram, which have long supported multiple accounts, and is positioned as a way to reduce reliance on third‑party cloning apps. The rollout is currently available worldwide, with early access reported in the United States and parts of Europe. Meta says the staged deployment ensures stability across diverse iOS devices and versions.
