Meta launches Waddle World AI virtual pet app

Meta has released Waddle World, a new mobile application that combines 16-bit pixel art virtual pet care with artificial intelligence. Currently available exclusively in the Philippines for users aged 18 and older, the app functions as a daily journal disguised as a digital pet.

Users hatch a virtual creature and interact with it through feeding, playing mini-games, and conversation. Utilizing AI, the pet can listen to or read user updates about their day, subsequently generating a journal entry written in the pet’s own voice accompanied by a custom doodle. The app is designed to be a low-pressure experience, explicitly stating it is not a chatbot, productivity tool, or assistant, and avoids aggressive gamification elements like daily streaks or competitive scores.

Industry observers suggest the launch may be a pilot program to test emotional AI interfaces before a potential global rollout or the release of dedicated hardware, such as the previously announced Muse Charm device. The app also features weekly email summaries based on the pet’s learned context about the user.
