Anthropic launches Claude Duet proactive AI agent

Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a proactive AI agent designed to operate in the background and execute tasks without constant user instruction. Currently available as a research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the United States, the agent is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model.

Claude Duet utilizes a dedicated cloud-based virtual machine and browser, allowing it to continue working even when a user's device is powered off or the application is closed. The agent can manage tasks such as summarizing morning briefings, creating dashboards, and organizing social media campaigns. It integrates with over 6,000 connectors to interact with various business tools.

To ensure security, the system requires explicit human approval before performing sensitive actions, including sending messages, making payments, signing contracts, or deleting files. However, the agent is strictly prohibited from negotiating values or moving money for financial asset trading. The service is accessible via claude.ai and standalone iOS and Android applications, with usage consuming the subscriber's existing plan limits.
