Meta and Anthropic negotiate up to $10 billion AI compute lease

Meta Platforms is in early‑stage talks with AI developer Anthropic to lease part of its data‑center compute capacity. Sources say the prospective agreement could be worth as much as $10 billion over two years, with monthly payments of roughly $417 million and provisions for either side to exit early.

Both firms are driven by a tight global shortage of AI compute. Anthropic, which is preparing for a potential IPO in late 2026, has already secured large‑scale deals with SpaceX (about $45 billion over three years) and a 20‑year, $19 billion lease with Bitcoin miner TeraWulf. Meta, meanwhile, is planning $125‑$145 billion in capital expenditures for AI data‑center infrastructure in 2026 and has indicated that requests for spare capacity come “almost every week.” A signed lease would give Meta a new revenue stream and pit it directly against other cloud providers such as Amazon, Microsoft and Google.
