Meta outage disables Facebook and Instagram worldwide
On June 11‑12, Meta confirmed a global disruption of its Facebook, Instagram and Messenger services. Users reported being logged out, seeing blank pages, or being unable to load feeds, with Downdetector logging over 300,000 incidents for Facebook and more than 20,000 for Instagram. The outage also triggered “high disruptions” notices on Meta’s business status pages, indicating that advertising tools such as Ads Manager and Instagram Boost were affected, halting campaign delivery and spending.
WhatsApp experienced only limited issues, while the cause of the interruption remains unconfirmed. Meta has experienced similar outages before, notably the October 2021 incident linked to a router‑configuration error. The platform appeared to be restored later on June 12, returning services to normal.
