Meta's Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp suffer global outage

On Friday, 12 June 2026, users around the world reported that Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp stopped functioning properly. The problems appeared suddenly and affected both mobile apps and web browsers, with many people being automatically logged out, receiving error messages such as “Something went wrong,” or being unable to load pages or send messages.

Thousands of outage reports were logged on monitoring services. Downdetector recorded more than 41,000 complaints for Messenger and over 16,000 for Facebook. The issue was not limited to a single country; users in Poland and many other regions posted about the failure on social media and outage‑tracking sites.

Meta has not provided a detailed explanation for the cause and only stated that engineers are working to restore full functionality. The duration of the outage remains uncertain.
