Meta pays creators with histories of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric
An investigation by Uncloseted Media and The 19th has identified at least 29 accounts with histories of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric that have been invited to Meta’s new Facebook Content Monetization program. This invite-only program, launched in 2024 to streamline earnings for creators, has faced scrutiny regarding the types of content it incentivizes.
Notable accounts identified include influencer Chaya Raichik, neo-Nazi webcomic artist StoneToss, and political commentator Benny Johnson. The report also includes podcaster Candace Owens and the organization Turning Point USA. These creators have been involved in spreading content targeting LGBTQ+ individuals, such as mocking transgender suicide rates or attacking schools for displaying Pride flags.
This follows previous reports, including one from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, suggesting that Meta’s monetization program has invited accounts promoting white supremacist and neo-Nazi ideologies. Meta did not respond to requests for comment regarding these findings.
