Meta platforms experience global outage affecting Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp
On the morning of 12 June 2026 users from Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Canada and other countries reported that Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp were intermittently unavailable. Complaints included inability to log in, feeds and stories failing to load, messages not being sent, and accounts being automatically disconnected. The monitoring service Downdetector recorded spikes of thousands of reports for each service, with peak alerts around 10:40 UTC‑BRT and again in the early afternoon in Europe.
Meta’s communications vice‑president Andy Stone confirmed the incident on X, saying the company is aware of the problems and is working to resolve them, but gave no details on the cause or an estimated time for full restoration. The outage affected both mobile apps and web versions, disrupting personal use as well as business communications that rely on WhatsApp Business and Facebook for customer service.
