On June 12, Meta's social media services—including Facebook, Instagram and Messenger—experienced a worldwide outage. Users in multiple countries such as India, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia reported being unable to log in, view feeds, post content, or send messages.
The disruption affected billions of accounts: Facebook has over 3.1 billion monthly active users, Instagram around 3 billion, and Messenger more than 1 billion. The issue was first noted after 9 a.m. local time, with outage‑tracking sites confirming a rapid rise in reports. Meta has not yet released a timeline for restoration, but the incident highlights the platform’s scale and its importance to daily online communication.
