Meta platforms Facebook, Instagram and Messenger suffer global outage

Meta’s core social apps — Facebook, Instagram and Messenger — experienced a widespread service disruption that affected millions of users worldwide. Reports of login failures, upload errors and error messages began early in the day, with some users automatically logged out and unable to access their accounts. Instagram users encountered similar problems, including trouble loading feeds and posting content, while Messenger was largely inaccessible. WhatsApp remained operational for most users.

Meta acknowledged the issue, stating, “We are aware of an issue affecting our services and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible.” The company’s engineering teams began investigating the outage, and services were gradually restored over several hours. The interruption highlighted the reliance of individuals, businesses, content creators and influencers on Meta’s platforms for communication, marketing and commerce.

The outage was tracked in real time by monitoring services such as Downdetector, and users turned to X (formerly Twitter) to share experiences and seek updates. No detailed technical explanation had been provided at the time of reporting.
