Meta Platforms negotiates $10 B AI cloud deal with Anthropic

Meta Platforms is in discussions to lease artificial‑intelligence computing power to Anthropic in a deal that could total up to $10 billion over two years, with payments made in monthly installments. The agreement would mark a step toward a new cloud‑infrastructure unit that Meta hopes to sell excess AI‑compute capacity from its expanding data‑center network.

Meta’s data‑center expansion aims to double its computing capacity to 14 gigawatts by 2027, funded in part by $30 billion of newly issued debt. The potential deal would put Meta in direct competition with established cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.

Analysts note that Meta’s upcoming second‑quarter earnings on July 29 could include an announcement of the cloud business, which many believe would have a material impact on the company’s stock price. Investors are also adjusting holdings, with several institutional funds buying or trimming positions in Meta ahead of the earnings season.
