Meta pledges improved cooperation with Philippine authorities on online safety

Meta has committed to a more proactive approach in removing harmful AI-generated deepfakes and responding to lawful requests from Philippine authorities regarding cybercrime and online threats. This commitment follows a meeting in Singapore between a Philippine government delegation, led by Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda, and executives from Meta and Roblox.

The discussions aimed to address growing concerns over online safety, specifically the exposure of minors to abusive or deceptive content. Meta has agreed to work with the DICT, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to develop mechanisms for identifying and immediately removing AI-generated content.

This cooperation follows previous criticisms from Philippine officials regarding Meta’s perceived lack of responsiveness and the absence of a full-fledged local office. Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center Executive Director Renato Paraiso stated that the development allows for faster coordination and better protection for vulnerable internet users, including children.
