Meta and EssilorLuxottica launch camera-free Ray-Ban smart glasses

Meta and EssilorLuxottica have expanded their smart eyewear lineup with the launch of Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses. Designed without a camera to address privacy concerns and reduce weight, these glasses focus on audio experiences, including music, calls, and Meta AI integration. The frames, available in Clubmaster and Burbank styles, weigh between 43 and 47 grams and offer up to 12 hours of battery life per charge, with an additional 48 hours provided by the charging case.

In addition to the audio-only models, Meta is rolling out the Ray-Ban Meta Display, which features an integrated screen. These products are seeing international availability, including launches in Italy, Germany, and Malaysia, with retail partnerships such as Deutsche Telekom in Germany.

Beyond consumer electronics, the technology is being utilized for social accessibility. Through the ‘Sensing Art’ project, Meta and EssilorLuxottica have partnered with the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan to provide visually impaired visitors with AI-powered smart glasses. The devices use AI to recognize masterpieces and provide automated audio descriptions, allowing for a more autonomous cultural experience.
