Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses reported to record audio without commands

Users of second and third-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have reported that the devices recorded conversations without the required “Hey Meta” voice command or manual touch activation. The issue, which surfaced following a software update, was observed across multiple distinct pairs of glasses.

Reports indicate that accidental recordings, including audio and written transcriptions, appeared in the Meta AI application history. While the glasses' indicator light does activate during recording, the AI assistant does not respond, allowing the capture to go unnoticed by the wearer. Meta has stated that it has resolved the issue, though the company has not specified the underlying cause of the malfunction.

The smart glasses integrate cameras, microphones, and AI into a standard eyewear form factor, raising ongoing questions regarding privacy and consent.
