Meta releases Muse Glimmer AI model and pushes for open-weight strategy FAST-MOVING
Meta has released Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion-parameter open-weight AI model designed for agentic tasks. Unlike many large-scale models that require cloud computing, Glimmer is optimized to run locally on consumer hardware, such as a Mac or PC equipped with a single graphics card. This model is a distilled version of Meta’s more powerful Muse Spark system and is intended to act as a personal AI agent capable of managing complex, multi-step workflows like file organization and scheduling.
Alongside the release, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg published a manifesto titled “The Future is for Everyone,” advocating for a decentralized approach to artificial intelligence. Zuckerberg argued that superintelligence should be distributed among individuals to empower them, rather than being concentrated within a few large corporations or government institutions. He expressed concern that current U.S. policies regarding training data restrictions place American developers at a disadvantage compared to Chinese competitors.
Zuckerberg highlighted that Chinese firms, such as Alibaba, Moonshot, and DeepSeek, are leading the race in open-weight models, which are often more cost-effective and customizable than the closed-weight systems produced by companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. Meta also announced plans to release the weights for Muse Spark 1.2 in the near future.
